Materials for Extremes
The next generation of advanced energy technologies and vehicles including require materials that can survive extreme temperature variations while maintaining their structural integrity and mechanical properties. The group works heavily in the area of refractory metals, ceramics and ceramic matrix composites and collaborates with advanced testing groups who test these samples in ion beam lines, hypersonics wind tunnels, and plasma torch instruments.
Advanced Manufacturing
To realize the next generation of energy, space, and industrial technologies new materials and manufacturing paradigm is needed that integrates the co-design of material and manufacturing. Our group accomplishes this through the use of advanced manufacturing techniques such as additive manufacturing, powder metallurgy techniques, casting, composites manufacturing processes and linking the chemistry of processing with the manufacturing technique.
Advanced Materials
Materials Discovery and synthesis is accelerating at a rapid pace with the advent of Artificial Intelligence. Data is the new currency and is combined with advanced synthesis and characterization techniques such as automated synthesis and high throughput characterization methods to explore wide material composition spaces in a short time.
